I don’t know about you, but I have spent a significant amount of time building relationships through LinkedIn. Many of these relationships are with current customers. Some are thought leaders to whom I look to for knowledge. Others still, are those for which I collaborate or just toss around ideas. And then, there are those for whom I just want to stay in touch.
Often times, there is a discussion thread in a group for which I belong, that fosters relationships converting from a casual co-contributor to a full blown connection. Those are the best!
The people I choose to include in my “connection” inner circle are those I wish to foster a continuing relationship. But how do you do that through LinkedIn alone? How do you convey your message and brand, let alone nurture the relationship through an external disconnected system?
Simple. Download your LinkedIn contacts, then upload them into your Contact Management System (CRM).
“What? I can do that?”
Yes. Now, I am not suggesting leaving LinkedIn once you harvest your best connections. What I am suggesting is furthering that relationship in your own terms. They will still engage with you in LinkedIn (especially those in your most active groups), but now have a better context in which to further that relationship.
This also gives you an opportunity to learn more about your connections – things LinkedIn does not readily make available. Having them in your CRM system allows you to begin to ask and complete much of the information you wish you had but don’t or cannot easily see within the LinkedIn platform.
So, how do you download your contacts? It’s pretty simple and LinkedIn gives you step-by-step instructions on how to do it. But rather than make you guess ror search, I’ll make it easy for you. Click on the image below to be redirected to the LinkedIn How-To page.
NOTE: It is recommended that you access your LinkedIn account from a Chrome or Firefox browser to properly export a usable file.
